Região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro da noite de sábado, 20 de novembro, até o dia 27 de novembro de 2010, quando bandidos ligados ao narcotráfico tentaram promover um "arrastão" na cidade Maravilhosa. Durante os ataques e depois, durante as operações, registrou-se que pelo menos 181 veículos teriam sido incendiados pelos criminosos. Nesse período, ocorreram ainda 39 mortes, cerca de duzentas detenções para averiguação e quase setenta prisões.
No dia 25 de novembro, a Polícia Militar do Rio de Janeiro, com seu Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais, (BOPE), atuando ao lado da Polícia Civil e em parceria com a Marinha do Brasil, que disponibilizou seis blindados e um grupo de fuzileiros navais para ampararem a logística da operação, que resultou na tomada da Vila Cruzeiro, região da cidade que até então estava em poder dos traficantes. Cerca de quinhentos policiais participaram da ação e o BOPE a operacao foi bem sucedida.Em 28 de novembro uma manobra do helicóptero que sobrevoa as favelas do Alemão, na zona norte do Rio, deu início a ocupação policial na região. A aeronave cruzou um ponto disparando intensa rajada de tiros por volta das 8h.Por terra, veículos blindados de grande porte estão em locais estratégicos e já começam a movimentação.
As polícias aguardavam apenas a ordem do Estado para ocupar a área, o que ocorreu pouco depois das 7h30min.
A operacao foi bem sucecida muitos bandidos fogiram e muitos foram retidos a Paz finalmente voltou para essa comunidade policiais nao iram sair do alemao ate uma sede da UPP(Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora).
